In part three of this 4-part series, I talked about offering your body to God to help you avoid sexual sin. In this last edition, I'd like to focus on the importance and necessity of using the Word to avoid sexual sin. Using
the Word God's Word, being God Himself in written form, is powerfully anointed to separate us from the filfth that is in the world. Jesus alluded to this much when He declared God's Word to be truth, and then asked God to sanctify us by that truth (John 17:17). God's Word - His truth - is able to separate us from all sins, addictions, bondages, and weights that would keep us from fulfilling the high call on our life. The psalmist realized this when he asked himself how a person could keep his or life clean. His answer was by taking heed to the Word of God. He continued by saying that that word hid in his heart would prevent him from sinning against God (Psalm 119:9, 11). In his second letter to the early church, Peter wrote that God had given us exceeding great and precious promises so that though them we'd be partakers of the divine nature (God's nature). For what purpose should we be partakers of the divine nature? So that we might escape the corruption and depravity that is in the world though lust (2 Peter 1:4). As we learn about God's promises, claim them, and then begin to walk them out; we find ourselves "walking" on a higher plane and in a greater spiritual dimension. By virtue of us walking in a higher spiritual dimension and paying more attention to spiritual things, we begin to find that we're no longer thinking the way we used or doing the sinful things we used to do. The best way to not do one thing is to do something different altogether. That is what happens as we begin to use the Word and let it separate us from worldliness, which includes sexual sins. Make a decision to let God's word judge you (Hebrews 4:12) and separate you from sexual sin. It is powerful enough to do its part if you'll do you part by receiving it and submitting to it. ** You may e-mail Kevin Bullard and read other articles on relationships, family, marriage and much more at www.understandthebible.org** |
