Blackstar @ The Electric Factory, Philadelphia, PA, 10/30/04
Two of the best solo MCs in recent memory are also one of the best duos in Hip-Hop. Separate, they are Mos Def and Talib Kweli. But together, Mos Def and Talib Kweli are Blackstar. And a chance to see Blackstar is not an everyday occurrence. Knowfrillz had the chance to see them recently and it was a truly memorable experience. Read Review |

A Tribe Called Quest @ The Electric Factory, Philadelphia, PA, 10/11/04
I remember when I first saw the video for “I Left My Wallet in El Segundo” on Video Music Box. Back then, Tribe was an afterthought behind their Native Tongue brethren The Jungle Brothers and De La Soul. But as I watched that grainy, low-budget, quirky video with the four-member crew dressed in clothes that looked straight out of thrift store, who could have imagined that I was witnessing the birth of one of the greatest groups in Hip Hop history. Butterfly's Drunk Of Cherrywine-Cherrywine @ SOBs, Wednesday, June 25, 2003
I have been hearing “about” Ishmael Butler’s (aka Butterfly from the group Digable Planets) current musical project for about the past 3-4 years. However, I had never actually heard the music. What has come to fruition is the hip-hop band Cherrywine led by Mr. Butler on vocals and lead guitar. I was fortunate enough to catch a live performance of the collective recently, as well as listening to the debut album “Bright Black.” The verdict is as follows. Read Review |

Good Things Come To Those Who Wait-Julie Dexter/Donnie Concert at the Village Underground NYC February 27, 2003
I found out a 2 days before the Donnie/Julie Dexter show on February 27, 2003 at the Village Underground in NYC that it was sold out. As the 20-something degree weather began to make its presence felt in my extremities, the bouncer came out and informed us that the first 3 people in line had a slight chance of gaining entrance; the rest of us had “zero chance.” Just as my fingers and toes were almost completely devoid of feeling, I was granted entrance. Patience is certainly a virtue. Read Review |

Donnie Live at Angel Oresanz Synagogue
I was completely blindsided as the man took the stage and began a short thirty-minute performance of musical expression that has changed my musical and personal outlook from that night forward.

“WHO SHOT YA?” Book Release @ B.B. King’s, Monday, October 21, 2002
As I stood in line outside of B.B. Kings on 42nd Street amongst the bright lights of Times Square, awaiting entry to the release party for hip-hop photography legend Ernie Paniccioli’s book “Who Shot Ya? Three Decades of Hip Hop Photography,” I wondered what it must have been like to stand in line outside of The Rooftop or the Latin Quarter, awaiting entry to a Furious Five or Lovebug Starski show.....Read Review |
